Chrysalis Center was founded
by Kayj Nash Okine, Ph.D. and Kelly Broadwater, M.A. in June 2003. Prior to starting the practice, both counselors
worked closely together at the UNC-Wilmington Counseling Center and were part of the Eating Disorder Treatment Team
on campus. Their decision to
branch out into private practice was driven by a desire to reach out to
the community and be able to provide counseling and eating disorder
treatment to a variety of populations.
Both psychologists are licensed professionals and members of the
International Association for Eating Disorder Professionals and the National
Eating Disorders Association.

Kayj Nash
Okine
PhD, Licensed Psychologist

Dr.
Okine, the Clinical Director of Chrysalis, has coordinated eating
disorder treatment at 3 major universities across the nation, including
UNCW. She has provided clinical services in 5 university counseling
centers, has worked as a counselor in an adolescent
substance abuse treatment program, has served as a hotline counselor on
a national crisis line, and has provided supervision in a variety of
settings. She has taught university-level psychology classes for 10
years and has presented extensively at the local and regional level. Her
clinical interests include eating disorder treatment, behavior
modification for ADHD, relationship issues, trauma work, college student
development, and the bariatric surgery population. She earned a B.A. in
Psychology from Stanford University, an M.A. in Counseling and Personnel
Services from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Ph.D. in
Counseling Psychology from Arizona State University.

Kelly Broadwater
MA, Licensed Psychological Associate,
Licensed Professional Counselor

Ms. Broadwater,
co-owner and staff psychologist, has provided psychological services in
private practice, college counseling centers (including UNCW’s eating
disorder treatment program), inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and a
community mental health center. She has taught college-level psychology
courses at two institutions and had an article on college student
drinking published in Addictive Behaviors. Her areas of clinical
interest include treating eating disorders, social anxiety, substance
abuse in adolescent and young adult populations, clients with
self-destructive behaviors, and working with bariatric surgery patients.
She earned a B.A. in Psychology from Clemson University with a Minor in
Women’s Studies and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Appalachian
State University.

Chaundra Klein RD, LDN
Nutritional Therapist
|
Ms. Klein is a registered dietitian who focuses on building a
healthy relationship with food and improving eating habits using a
non-diet approach. She has received invaluable training and experience
in counseling clients with eating disorders and practicing nutritional
counseling in a variety of settings. Nutrition sessions may include
learning intuitive and mindful eating skills, meal planning, strategies
for grocery shopping, and facilitating a normal approach to achieving a
balanced style of eating. Ms. Klein completed the dietetic internship
program through ECU. She also earned a B.S. in Dietetics, along with a
Gerontology Certification, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Ashley
Williamson Swinson
MSW, P-LCSW

Mrs. Swinson,
clinical social worker, comes from a strong background in mental
health. She has provided services in multiple settings including
private practice, non-profits, the public school system, and college
campuses. Ms. Swinson has served a variety of clinical populations
through group and individual counseling ranging from children to
adults. Prior to joining Chrysalis, she worked in the
Counseling
Center at
Barton
College in
Wilson,
NC, as a counselor and student group
advisor. Her specialized interests include treating eating disorders,
anxiety disorders, depression, and traumatic grief; working with the
adolescent and bariatric populations; and programming outreach and
awareness efforts. Mrs. Swinson earned a BA in Psychology from UNCW and
an
MSW from
East
Carolina
University with a concentration
in Direct, Mental Health practice.

Kendra Wilson
MSW, LCSW |
Ms. Wilson is a
licensed clinical social worker with
extensive group, family, and individual therapy experience. She came
to Chrysalis Center from Johns Hopkins Hospital's Eating Disorder
Inpatient and Day Hospital Program. She also maintained a private
practice in Baltimore, Maryland. Her specialized interest are eating
disorders, dialectical behavior therapy, dual diagnosis, and depression
in women and adolescents. She earned a B.S. in Psychology from George
Mason University and an MSW with a Mental Health specialization from
University of Maryland School of Social Work in Baltimore, Maryland.

Annmarie Miller
MSW, LCSW |
Mrs. Miller is a
licensed clinical social
worker with more than fifteen years experience in
research, treatment and outreach in the field of eating disorders and body
image issues. Other areas of interest include anxiety,
depression, stress and time management, and relationship issues. She has
provided clinical services in
acute inpatient care, as well
as in the counseling centers of
Davidson College,
Elon University
and the
University of
South Carolina. Further relative experience
includes working for the Center for Child and Family Studies, William S.
Hall state psychi-atric hospital, and the Sexual Trauma Center of the
Midlands. She has presented work-shops across the Southeast, including
to the National
Association of Social Workers,
Uni-versity of
North Carolina School of Med-icine, and
Wake Forest
University School of Medicine. Mrs. Miller received a BA
in Com-munication and Sociology from
Salem College and an MSW from
the University of South Carolina. |
