Psychology Intern
(she, her, hers)
Madeline Gray is a Clinical Psychology Intern at Chrysalis Center and a graduate student at UNC Wilmington, where she is pursuing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from UNC Chapel Hill, where she studied psychological assessment and early psychosis interventions. Prior to graduate school, Madeline conducted research at Duke University and Wake Forest University, working with individuals with serious mental illness and nicotine dependence. She is currently working on her thesis about the effects of social rejection and personality.
Madeline views therapy as an equal partnership and emphasizes building coping skills and resilience, increasing self-understanding, and aligning behaviors in life with personal values. She is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment for clients of all identities and backgrounds. Madeline believes in building a nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship that can promote lasting change. Her therapeutic approach integrates a variety of evidence-based therapeutic techniques centered on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). With each unique client, Madeline tailors therapy to the needs and stage of the client, combining CBT with aspects of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). She is particularly interested in using these techniques to improve tolerance to distress, increase self-awareness, create meaningful change, and achieve emotional growth.
At Chrysalis Center, Madeline is gaining experience in the treatment of eating disorders and trauma-informed care. She is especially passionate about helping clients to navigate life transitions, strengthen relationships, and gain insight.
